Delivering the Early Years Curriculum We use the following experiences and activities to help children to learn and develop:

PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

This area of learning is about children developing a positive sense of themselves and others; respect for others; social skills; and a positive disposition to learn. Vicharles Play Centre ensures children receive support for their emotional well-being to help them to know themselves and what they can do.

PROBLEM SOLVING, REASONING AND NUMERACY

This are of learning is about children developing an understanding of Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy on a broad range of contexts in which they can explore, enjoy, learn, practise and talk about through developing understanding. VPC provides children with opportunities to practise and extend their skills in these areas so that children gain confidence and competence in their ability.

COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY

This area of learning is about children learning and being competent in communicating, speaking and listening, being read to and beginning to read and write. VPC provides children with opportunities and encouragement to use their skills in a range of situations and for a range of purposes. This area includes communication, speaking.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

This area of learning is about children having opportunities to be active; interactive and improve their skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. VPC provides children with opportunities to use all of their senses to learn about the world around them and develop an understanding of the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices in relation to food.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD

This area of learning is about developing the knowledge, skills and understanding that help children to make sense of the world. VPC provides children with opportunities to use a range of tools safely; encounter creatures; people; plants and objects in their natural environments and in real life situations; undertake practical ‘experiments’ and work with a range of materials.

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

This area of learning is about developing children’s curiosity, exploration and play. VPC provides children with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings, through activities such as art, music, movement, imaginative and role-play activities, mathematics and design and technology.
